Very good question. Each photographer is different, but many base their pricing structure on the following:
Equipment
Some photographers have more expensive kit than others. They factor this in to the price they would like to achieve for a print. This should reflect the quality of the image. My entire kit is not far of £10,000.
Travel
To get the image you like, I will have no doubt clocked up many miles in my car. That involves fuel, wear and tear and accommodation for the night.
Time
When you view images on the net, it is very easy to assume that a photographer can just step out of a car and drop on a perfect image 1st time. 99% of the time this is not the case. An image may take several attempts in different conditions to get the final image. It may involve hours of grueling hiking up a mountainside in awful conditions. Then there is the time spent on the computer in Lightroom and Photoshop tweaking the image to get that desired result.
Production Costs
Then there is the manufacturing costs that my suppliers charge to produce the print. These aren’t the cheapest on the internet. Rather they are carefully chosen companies that provide the best quality product that I am after when selling my prints online.
Finally . . . . my profit margins
On top of all the costs associated with a single image, I then add my percentage of profit that I would like to make it all worthwhile. As I write these FAQs I have been working tirelessly for hours and hours and hours building my new website. I have hardly been out taking any new images. Hopefully all the hard work will pay off in the months to come. I am not in it to create a full-time job like many photographers. Rather, I just want to find satisfaction in the fact that someone like you would like to spend their hard earned money on my photography. As well as contribute my share to the household running costs and not leave it entirely to my amazing wife.
In conclusion . .
I know that I may not be the most famous photographer in Britain, and sadly I haven’t won any awards just yet (Maybe Best Dad 2017 in my own household). However, if you shop around you will notice that like for like for the product offered I am very competitive. I also feel that with the help of my Canon 5dsr (50.6mp camera) I do offer some excellent image quality that would easily rival any similar images you may find out there.
